Four months after the success of its “Oh my god” comeback, girl group (G)-IDLE has swept the iTunes chart once again with the new song, “DUMDi DUMDi.”
The track, released on 3 August, reportedly not only topped iTunes in 41 regions but also ranked high in Korean music charts, namely, Bugs, Naver Music and Genie. Its music video, which surpassed five million views on YouTube within its first five hours of release, has 36 million views as of this writing.
Composed by member Soyeon and lyricist Pop Time, “DUMDi DUMDi” is a song that is made right for summer, along with its addictive melody and choreography that perfectly fits the group’s diverse style.
The “DUMDi DUMDi” music video features each member taking on specific roles, Miyeon an actress alone on a vacation; Minnie the wanderer; the homebody Soojin; sleek Soyeon in a convertible; Yuqi the cowgirl and the bright part-time waitress Shuhua.
“While writing a summer song this time around, I felt that ‘summer’ was similar to ‘youth.’ Youthfulness involves both a refreshing feeling and a passionate heat. I hope you’ll feel both summer and youth at the same time (through the song),” Soyeon said.
(G)-IDLE also shared its excitement over “I-LAND: WHO AM I,” the group’s first solo concert which took place online last month. Member Minnie recalled, “It was unfortunate that we couldn’t directly meet our Neverland ((G) I-DLE)’s fandom name) even though it was our first concert, but our fans cheered us on a lot through the live comments. I was surprised when Neverland’s fan chant came on during our final ‘LATATA’ stage. I almost cried because I was so moved.”
