Ex-U.S. Navy officer arrested in Pampanga
A former United States Navy official, wanted for various crimes, was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) in Angeles, Pampanga.
BI-FSU chief Bobby Raquepo said 63-year-old Fernando Monroy, a former director for operation of the US Navy’s Sealift Command, was nabbed at Nouveau Residences in Barangay Cacutud on Tuesday in coordination with the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission, US Diplomatic Security Service-Office of Criminal Investigation, Philippine National Police-4A and Angeles City police.
Monroy is an undocumented alien as the US government already revoked his passport on 9 July 2020 and declared him a “risk to public safety and security,” as per official communication from the US Embassy in Manila.
The said communication requested for assistance in locating and apprehending Monroy, who has an outstanding warrant of arrest issued by the US on 20 May for conspiracy, bribery, false statements and obstruction of justice.
Monroy is currently under the custody of the Batangas provincial police pending the result of his COVID-19 swab test.
