12 EV towns virus-free
As of Sunday, Eastern Visayas has a total of 5,817 COVID-19 infections with 4,940 recoveries, 54 fatalities and 823 active cases
The widespread infection of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has so far spared 12 local government units in Eastern Visayas.
Records from the Department of Health regional office showed five municipalities in Eastern Samar, ride from Hagnaya Port in San Remigio town.
All Cebuanos, regardless of age, can now visit tourist sites as the province is already under modified general community quarantine. They must present confirmed hotel and resort bookings upon embarking at ports.
The confirmed booking will be required to purchase two-way boat tickets in going to and from islands. Boat tickets are also proof that the visit is for leisure, to differentiate from locally stranded individuals, authorized persons outside residence and overseas Filipino workers or repatriated Filipinos and seafarers.
Bantayan’s last COVID-19 update on 12 October via its Facebook page stated nine active cases. Out of total 51 confirmed infections, one died. three in Northern Samar, three in Western Samar and one in Southern Leyte have never had a COVID-19 case since the pandemic started in March.
COVID-free so far are Eastern Samar towns Balangkayan, Can-avid, Hernani, Jipapad and Maslog and in Northern Samar, the island municipalities of Biri, San Antonio and San Vicente.
Western Samar, tops among provinces with the highest number of COVID cases in the region, have Santo Niño, Tagapul-an and Talalora towns remaining infection-free.
In Southern Leyte, the municipality of Hinundayan remains free from the virus.
All 40 municipalities and three cities in Leyte, including independent cities Ormoc and Tacloban, have infections. Likewise, the eight towns that compose the province of Biliran.

Ormoc, however, reported that it was virus-free as of Monday. Its last active cases, an elderly locally stranded individual, was discharged on Sunday.
On 13 October, the Tacloban City Health Office reported that out of 836 confirmed infections, there are still 56 active cases, 766 have recovered and 14 died.
