The three sports facilities operated by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) used to accommodate COVID-19 patients are starting to get decongested based on figures submitted by authorities. As of yesterday, the Ninoy Aquino Stadium (NAS), which started housing patients on 8 April, is currently home to 67 patients — all male — with 45 cubicles available for occupancy if the need arises. A total of 932 have been admitted in the NAS since it began admitting patients with no records of death reported. The discharged patients total 857. The nearby Rizal Memorial Coliseum (RMC), which became operational on 18 May, presently cares for 45 patients, 30 male and 15 female. It can still accommodate 52.

A total of 429 have been admitted in the RMC since May and 398 discharged.

Over at the Philsports (Ultra) in Pasig, there are just 20, 18 male and two female patients.

The Ultra started accepting patients one day ahead of RMC and so far had cared for 554 and discharged 530. It has a total bed capacity of 132 with 112 available for occupancy.

All three underwent massive repairs and rehabilitation last year for the staging of the Southeast Asian Games.

Only the Teachers’ Camp in Baguio City was the only PSC-run venue in Luzon that wasn’t used as a temporary shelter for coronavirus patients.

By next month, Baguio City should be ready to welcome back select national athletes as efforts intensify to send them all back to training for next year’s Tokyo Olympics and the 31st SEA Games in Hanoi.
