Director Alice Visperas said a charter plane is being prepared for the returning workers bound for Guangzhou, China this month.

Bello said about 495,435 OFW lost their jobs, while the other 9,000 is the number of OFW who have acquired the virus.

With the help of Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Visperas said DoLE has coordinated with Philippine Airlines in transporting the Filipino teachers.

According to Visperas, they were among the Filipino workers who either went home to the Philippines late last year for a vacation or those who have completed their respective contracts but were not able to go back to China due to the imposed travel restrictions caused by the global pandemic.

“Now that the lockdown ( restriction) has been eased they can now return for work,” she added.

Labor Director Rolly Francia also stressed that the return of the Filipino migrant workers in China is a sign that the Chinese market is already opening its doors to foreign workers.

Earlier, Bello disclosed that at least 505,000 OFW felt the impact of the virus.
