Boy, 14, dies from right hook

What was meant to be a friendly boxing match among boys in Quiapo, Manila turned into tragedy after a right hook caused a young man’s life.

Declared dead on arrival at the Ospital ng Sampaloc was the victim, identified as “Kiram,” 14, Muslim, and a resident of Fraternal Street in Quiapo.

Presently under police custody is “Alfred,” 13, a Grade 7 student, residing at Castillejo­s Street.

Based on the investigat­ion by Cpl. Rodolfo Acosta III of the Manila Police District-Homicide Section, the incident happened at 5 p.m. on Monday, 30 November, at Fraternal Street.

The boys agreed to a friendly match.

When “Alfred” saw an opening, he punched “Kiram” in the face, pummeling him with a punch on the chin.

The blow sent “Kiram” to fall unconsciou­s to the ground.

Basit Minandang, a bystander who witnessed the incident, immediatel­y took “Kiram” to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The boy’s body was brought to the Golden Mosque where it was immediatel­y buried following Muslim tradition.
