Cavite, Isabela towns latest recipients of Go aid
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go personally extended aid to 500 typhoon victims in Cavite City on Monday and vowed to continue supporting affected communities.
His team was also in Isabela province on Sunday and Monday to aid typhoon “Ulysses” victims in the towns of Santa Maria and San Pablo and Ilagan and Santiago cities.
A total of 2,017 beneficiaries gathered at the covered courts of Barangay Lingaling in Santa Maria, Barangay Auitan in San Pablo and Barangay Batalin Santiago City and at Ilagan Convention Center.
Go spent his Monday morning with flood victims at Samonte Park to check on their welfare and lead the distribution of emergency assistance.
“President Rodrigo Duterte and I will always be at your service as long as we’re in office because it is our mandate to see to it that your needs are met, here in Cavite City and nationwide,” he assured residents.
“Do not thank us. Do not feel indebted. Instead, we are thankful to all of you for allowing us to serve you.”
Heavy rains from typhoons “Quinta,” “Rolly” and “Ulysses” triggered flooding that displaced thousands in Luzon late October and early November.
Hence, Go’s team continued to respond to calls for help. Previous aid-distribution activities were held in Rizal, Cagayan, Metro Manila and the Bicol Region.
In Cavite, Go’s team provided meals, food packs, vitamins, masks, face shields and other forms of assistance while strictly observing necessary health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other diseases.
Selected beneficiaries were provided with bicycles, an alternative mode of transportation as options are limited due to the pandemic. Others received tablets for their children’s use in online learning.
“To our dear students, study hard and make your parents proud,” he reminded.
Do not thank us.
As part of the Duterte administration’s commitment to implement a whole-of-government approach towards recovery of affected communities, various agencies also attended the event.
Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided each household with financial assistance while the Department of Trade and Industry and National Housing Authority committed to extend livelihood and housing aid, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture granted financial assistance to qualified farmers and fisherfolk under the Enhanced KADIWA ni Ani at Kita Inclusive Food Supply Chain Program and distributed food items.
As chair of Committee on Health, Go reaffirmed that the poor and vulnerable sectors of society will be prioritized once an effective and safe COVID-19 vaccine is available.
