Blackpink tapped as local telco endorser
The Philippine’s largest internet providers — Globe Telecom Inc. and PLDT Inc. — are riding the Korean wave in an attempt to capture the so- called “K- Pop Fandoms” to keep their businesses afloat amid the global health crisis.
Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu on Tuesday announced that K-pop group sensation Blackpink is “officially in our area.”
“Globe, we know and everyone knows, brings only the best in entertainment right into Filipino homes... Please welcome our newest brand ambassadors and members of the Globe family — Blackpink,” Cu said.
“This musical group of young talented artists has been topping the charts all over the world. Today, I am proud to announce that this group is chosen to endorse Globe in the Philippines,” he added.
Last week, Globe released a teaser poster hinting at a collaboration with the chart-topping South Korean girl band.
Rival PLDT-Smart has also tapped Korean endorsers including Park Seo-Joon, Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin, all of which signed a contract that includes a visit to the Philippines.
The date of the visit has yet to be determined due to restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
With people online now more than ever, the telco giant’s promise of providing stable internet is aligned with the president’s mandate to improve the country’s connectivity before the year ends.
