Cops raise millions for calamity victims

We still visit them and the families. When we find families who need help, we still extend help under the program

The Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR) pooled its resources to donate to victims of calamities, coronaviru­s disease 2019 and other humanitari­an projects.

PROCOR raised P19.2 million from policemen assigned in the Cordillera Administra­tive Region (CAR).

Capt. Marnie Abellanida, PROCOR chief informatio­n officer, said P3,407,875 went to typhoon victims in the Cagayan Valley and Bicol Regions.

PROCOR director Brig. Gen. R’Win Pagkalinaw­an tuned over the cheque worth P2.04 million to PRO-2 deputy director for administra­tion Brig. Gen. Edgar Cacayan in Kalinga province on Thursday.

The remaining P1.37 million will be sent to PRO-5. Abra Police Provincial Office donated P535,910; Apayao, P157,200; Baguio City, P157,200; Benguet, P532,500; Ifugao, P320,000; Kalinga, P405,900; and Mountain Province, P283,000.

The Regional Mobile Force Battalion also pitched in P297,500, the regional headquarte­rs contribute­d P249,855 and regional support units P116,410.

Abellanida said cops nationwide continue to revisit victims to check on their conditions under the “Kapwa Ko, Sagot Ko” project of former national chief Gen. Archie Gamboa.

Some victims still unable to provide for themselves and their families still receive assistance.

“We still visit them and the families. When we find families that need help, we still extend help under the

program,” the police captain added.

“Kapwa ko, Sagot ko” previously raised P11.7 million while an earlier fundraisin­g drive by PROCOR resulted in a P4.1-million donation to fund the constructi­on of a footbridge in Sadanga, Mountain Province.
