Kuya Bong inspires in La Union visit

-

Amid the COVID- 19 pandemic and its adverse socio- economic impacts, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go assured La Union residents that the government is committed to ushering in positive changes and economic opportunities through various infrastructure projects and other public services.

Senator Go reiterates his and President Rodrigo Duterte’s commitment to serve.

He will also continue to craft legislative measures to address the needs of Filipinos nationwide and elsewhere.

“I again reiterate my commitment to serve you. That is my mandate as a public servant. Whatever your concerns are, I will make sure President Rodrigo Duterte will learn about them,” he said on Friday after he led the launch of the Malasakit Center (MC) at Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in San Fernando City.

It was the 94th MC in the country, 49th in Luzon and the third in Region 1.

Go also shared some of the ongoing government projects in the province, including the Bauang- San Fernando Bypass Road which will cut travel time from Bauang via Manila North Road from one hour to just 30 minutes.

“The Bauang-San Fernando Bypass Road will be finished by 2022,” he reported. Other projects are the rehabilitation of the Provincial Capitol roof, construction of Provincial Capitol Rain Collectors and the construction and improvement of Provincial Capitol Executive Building Phase 2 — all in Barangay 2, San Fernando City.

There is a road concreting project in Barangay Cambaly in Bagulin town and the construction and excavation of the slope protection of Burgos Public Market.

He then highlighted legislative measures that he authored or sponsored that were enacted into laws, particularly those that seek to improve the healthcare system by increasing bed capacity and capabilities of various hospitals.

Other measures he authored that were also signed into law were Republic Act (RA) 11466, which increased the salary of government employees; RA 11462, which reset the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections to 5 December 2022; and RA 11463, which mandates the establishment of MC in all Department of Healthrun hospitals and in the Philippine General Hospital.

Go assured that he continues to push for measures that will benefit the poor, vulnerable and those who need government attention the most. Among those are proposals to establish the Department of Overseas Filipinos (DoOF) because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and to improve government efficiency and effectiveness in the provision of necessary services from deployment.

Filed in July 2019, Senate Bill 202 seeks to create the DoOF to improve the delivery of government services to Filipinos abroad by bringing together and streamlining the relevant services scattered across various national agencies.

The DoOF bill will be tackled on Monday, Go said, Go assured he and President Duterte will not tire serving the country.

“As long as we are in power and we have the capability to help, our services will continue,” he said.
