It is said that life is about lessons learned. Truth be told, the School of Life continues to intensify and upgrade our experiences, some more difficult, others more trying and yet leaving enough room for satisfaction and joy in between.

So, as 2020 nears its end, what have been our learnings?

Stop, look, listen

STOP — Abruptly, we have been constrained to simply stop all manner of a structured day-to-day way of living. The cessation of most of our familiar routine did not mean the end of activity or progress. The lesson: Be still. Look within. Embrace your silence. Shut off the noisy distractions of the world.

LOOK — See reality for what it is and deal with it as best you can. Look with your two eyes and your two sights — the first sight of your physical/mortal eyes and the second sight of your heart/ immortal eyes. Remove those rose-tinted pair of shades and replace it with the truth of what you are witnessing. The lesson: With your multi-dimensional sight, you can begin to appreciate your place in this world

and in the lives of others. LISTEN — There is music all around you. The melody of life surrounds you. Now you can better appreciate the laughter of children and the voices of your family. You are now above and beyond the noise of a hurried world. The lesson: Now you can truly hear the voice of a loved one or the cries and pleas of those who suffer.

True wellness

When you have begun to master the basics of stop, look and listen, then the true meaning of wellness unfolds. The harmony of your body, mind and spirit begins to manifest in three ways:

• A healthier body and a stronger immune system, based on wiser and more disciplined lifestyle choices.

• A sound and positive mind. A more loving and forgiving heart.

• A persevering spirit, prepared to overcome adversity.

The new 3Rs

Once upon a time it used to be ‘ Reading, ‘ Riting, ‘ Rithmetic. Today, the new “R’s” have emerged: Renew, Recharge, Reinvent.

Renew — Make new is the mandate. There is always room for improvement in all areas of your life.

There is so much more of you waiting to be discovered. Untapped talent awaits.

Recharge — You can revitalize yourself physically, mentally and emotionally in many creative ways — from getting more quality sleep to more prayer and meditation.

Reinvent — There is so much more of you waiting to be discovered. Untapped talent awaits. Quarantine has created an environment for self-discovery. Thus, it is no surprise that budding artists, chefs and craftsmen have been born out of introspection and self-development.

Affirmation: “I welcome the new me.” Love and light!
