Vico pushes regularization of city street sweepers
If not for you, we would not be able to keep order and cleanliness throughout the city
Aside from a salary increase, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto is also pushing for the regularization of the city’s street sweepers.
During the regular flag-raising ceremony, Sotto said, although street sweepers are not yet fully regularized at work, their salaries have been raised.
He said it is the duty of the local government to provide employment with adequate income for its workers.
The Pasig mayor also thanked sweepers who are considered as “silent workers” for maintaining order and cleanliness in the city.
“To our sweepers, you who are the silent workers of our city, you maintain order and cleanliness. Most of the time, we fail to thank you and we do not honor you,” Sotto said.
“We always expect that our surroundings be clean. If not for you, we would not be able to keep order and cleanliness throughout the city,” he added.
In gratitude for their service, the local government has increased the wages of street sweepers and other workers so that they can have job security.
Sotto promised he will keep workers away from the influence of politics, so that whoever will be become the next mayor, their work will remain certain.
“Even in this way, we can give you security. You have what is called security of tenure in your work, and that we hope to regularize all that we can resularize,” he expressed.
“As I have always said, I want to keep you away from politics, so that whoever becomes mayor, no matter what happens politically, your jobs are safe. The ultimate objective is to keep you in your jobs,” he added.
