The Mandaluyong City local government is training all its health workers on the use and administration of the Covid-19 vaccine to ensure a worry-free vaccination program.

Dr. Alex Sta. Maria, city health officer, said Mayor Menchie Abalos wants all health personnel ready and capable of administering the vaccine once the purchased doses have been delivered to the city.

“The directive of Mayor Abalos is for us to be prepared and to make this a worry-free vaccination program with the help of qualified and capable health workers of the city,” Sta. Maria said.

The city will be holding a two-day online training program for 212 health workers.

To date, 28 health workers under the Mandaluyong City Health Office and representatives from public and private hospitals in the city have already completed their online orientation under the Department of Health (DoH) regarding the Covid-19 vaccination program of the local government.

They are now set to train other medical workers in the city to ensure that the administration of vaccines is safe and complies with the standards set by the DoH.

The first batch to be taught on 21 January consists of doctors, nurses and midwives. The second batch including members of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and remaining health workers will be taught from 25 to 26 January.

Dr. May Villarina, City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit head, said all health workers participating in the Covid-19 vaccination will be taught important information on the new vaccine, how it will be prepared, stored and administered, possible side effects of the vaccine to a person, and how to deal with these should they occur.

Villarina added the Covid-19 vaccine information to discussed in the training program is similar to the Frequently Asked Questions infographics shared on the city’s official Facebook page.
