Serbia lauds Chinese medical team’s anti-virus efforts

BELGRADE, Serbia (Global Times) — Serbia on Monday awarded members of a Chinese medical team helping Serbia battle the coronaviru­s disease, marking the latest honor Chinese medical workers have received for their efforts in aiding other countries during the pandemic.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic honored nine Chinese physicians and Chinese biotech company BGI Group on Serbia’s Statehood Day for assisting in the country’s battle against the Covid-19 outbreak, CGTN reported Tuesday.

This is not the first Chinese medical team to receive high awards after aiding overseas countries during the global Covid-19 pandemic.

The doctors were given gold medals for merit, while the BGI Group, which helped build two “Fire Eye” laboratori­es for polymerase chain reaction testing, was awarded the first class of the Order of the Serbian Flag.

The Chinese medical team arrived in Belgrade on 21 March 2020 and worked 82 days in Serbia.

This is not the first Chinese medical team to receive high awards after aiding overseas countries during the global Covid-19 pandemic.

Cambodia on 20 January awarded the government’s medal of honor to five Chinese military doctors in recognitio­n of their contributi­ons to improving medical standards of a local military hospital and guiding medical researches and strengthen­ing the country’s capacity in the fight the Covid-19, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

On 16 January, Ecuador’s army headquarte­rs awarded four experts from the medical team dispatched by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army for their contributi­on in the field of medicine in Ecuador, especially their participat­ions in fighting the Covid-19 epidemic in the country, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

As early as in May 2020, Djibouti Prime Minister Abdoulkade­r Kamil Mohamed awarded 12 medals to a Chinese medical team helping fight Covid-19 in the country.
