Iñigo Pascual on singing Air Supply: Rare opportunity
Air Supply’s “All Out of Love” has been recorded over 100 times by other artists, but the pop duo’s members think Iñigo Pascual’s version is “tremendous and fabulous.”
In a video conference with Philippine media, Russell Hitchcock, the Australian member of the duo, said: “The vocals and harmonies were amazing. It’s like a perfect thing.”
Hitchcock also commended how Iñigo’s version remained true to the song’s core: “The fact that it’s true to its essence in the way Graham (Russell) wrote it is another great tribute to the song. That’s the way I want to hear it.”
Iñigo was over the moon upon hearing the compliments: “It’s such a crazy thing to experience. We’re just artists trying to remake their songs, but the fact that they’ve given us support means a lot. This is an opportunity of a lifetime.” Hitchcock joked that Iñigo is now bound to sing the track for the rest of his career “It’s very flattering to start with, that someone (from his generation) would record it. I’ve been singing that song since 1978 and it never gets tiring for me,” said Hitchcock.
“All Out of Love” is the first in a series of Air Supply remakes to be released this year by Tarsier Records, a division of ABS-CBN Music.
Russell, Air Supply’s British member, said: “It means that the song has transcended generations… We hope that the song will be heard by everybody. That’s the greatest thing we could ever hope for.” Hitchcock added: “It’s all about the song. We’re very lucky to have Graham as the songwriter. The songs we recorded will live forever.” On 14 February, Air Supply held its first online concert,
Love Letters, at the Florida Theater in the United States. Aside from performing its greatest hits, the group added two new songs. In the Philippines, Air Supply songs are staples at drinking sessions and videoke joints, where guests belt out “Making Love Out of Nothing at All,” “Lost in Love,” “Two Less Lonely People,” “Just as I Am” and “The One That You Love,” among other hits.
Russell said: “We performed (“All Out of Love”) pretty much every night when we played. The world has taken it on. I must say, it’s one we don’t take lightly. People listen to our songs all over the world so we have to be responsible. We’re into making great music. The fact that younger people are interested, it’s the greatest legacy we could ever leave behind.”
He joked: “Not that we’re going
anywhere.”
