Go helping typhoon-hit communities recover
Go provided bicycles to selected recipients as public transportation remains limited due to the pandemic
Consistent with his commitment to assist fellow Filipinos in crisis situations and help typhoon-hit communities build back better, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go sent assistance to 4,010 residents in the municipalities of Iguig, Solana and Enrile in Cagayan province who were victims of typhoon “Ulysses” in November.
While complying with necessary health and safety protocols, Go’s team distributed meals, food packs, masks, face shields, and vitamin packs to the beneficiaries in a series of distribution activities held from 15 to 16 February.
On 15 February, two sets of beneficiaries received assistance in an activity held in different locations, such as 1,146 beneficiaries at Iguig Evacuation Center and 2,164 beneficiaries at Bauan West Gymnasium Center in Solana.
The next day, 700 beneficiaries from Enrile received assistance in separate batches in another distribution event held at the Alibago Covered Court and Enrile Municipal Hall. Other potential beneficiaries from Enrile town are still being validated at this time.
In all the events, Go provided bicycles to selected recipients as public transportation remains limited due to the pandemic. The Senator also gave away pairs of shoes to chosen recipients. Meanwhile, computer tablets were distributed to selected beneficiaries for their children to use in classes as part of the school’s blended learning approach.
Mercedez Melad, a 79-year-old seamstress from Solana, expressed how the government has helped her in times of crisis.
She added how grateful she was to Senator Go and President Rodrigo Duterte for the help she received. She also asked that she be assisted further for her medical condition.
Dominador Callueng, Jr., a 53-year-old resident from Iguig, also expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by the Senator.
“(Hopefully, they won’t tire of helping us. Thank you President Duterte and Senator Go,” Callueng said.
To prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the country, Go reminded the beneficiaries to follow government protocols and assured them that the government has been working hard to procure vaccines, especially for the poor and vulnerable sectors.
Offering assistance to those who need immediate medical attention, he told them that the Malasakit Center located at Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Tuguegarao City is open to serve particularly poor and indigent Filipinos for their medical needs.
