Cebu-Cordova Bridge halfway completed
Construction of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) is now 59.68 percent completed as of the end of last January while its overall Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract is now at 68.21 percent.
“Part of the progress is the completion of the concreting works for the two main bridge pylons. Standing 145 meters, the CCLEX pylon on the side of Cebu City and Cordova have already reached their final height,” the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC) said in a bulletin released Wednesday.
There will be a total of eight 40-meter crosses installed on all sites of the two towers that will be lighted at night to highlight Cebu’s significant role as cradle of Christianity. The crosses, which are made of imported stainless steel will be illuminated by interconnected LED linear light strips.
Installation of the 20 out of the 56 slay cables which will hold the deck for the main bridge, meanwhile, is done. Said cables w20 out of the 56 slay cables have already been installed.
The CCLEC statement further stated that the construction of the 200-meter permanent pedestrian footbridge is also in full swing with four out of six pre-fabricated steels were already installed. It will start near the U-turn slot of the South Road Properties’ welcome tower and will serve as pedestrian’s access to the sidewalk of the CSCR on ramp. Sidewalks will be provided in the entire stretch of CCLEX.
Placing of filters and armor rocks are also ongoing as well as the laying of the vent pipes. There will be 20 units of vent pipes scattered along the causeway’s stretch in order to equalize the flow of seawater in the Cordova Channel.
CCLEX is an 8.5-kilometer toll bridge linking Cebu City through its South Road Properties (SRP) to the municipality of Cordova in Mactan island.
The P30-billion facility is owned and built by CCLEC, a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, the toll road arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, which will maintain and operate under a joint agreement with the local government units of Cebu City and Cordova.
It is estimated to accommodate 50,000 vehicles daily which will ease traffic in the existing Serging Osmeña Jr. and Marcelo Fernan bridges.
Completion of the structure is expected to be completed by December 2021.
