What’s next after the Joshua-Julia ‘Paubaya’ video?
Will ex-lovers Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto do a project soon? It depends on Viva and ABS-CBN
Filipinos are indeed sentimental. Their obsession over emotional moments can, for instance, make a song trend online even if the tune had been released almost a year ago.
That song is “Paubaya,” recorded by Moira de la Torre and reissued by ABS-CBN’s Star Music label on 14 February with a music video starring ex-lovers Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto.
Joshua and Julia , otherwise known as the celebrity tandem JoshLia, broke up allegedly because Julia fell in love with Gerald Anderson while doing a film in Japan in May 2019.
If Julia forsook Joshua, Gerald, in Gen-Z vocab, ghosted girlfriend Bea Alonzo, who took to social media to let the world know of Gerald’s shenanigans.
The music video depicts the wedding of the characters played by Joshua and Julia. But while walking on the aisle, the bride suddenly changes her mind, turns her back and walks away — leaving the groom stunned and dumbfounded.
The succeeding scenes show Moira singing the plaintive song, and then Julia walking back to the chapel with Joshua still standing at the altar.
They speak to each other with tearful eyes, addressing each other with their real names. Julia explains why she has backed off from their wedding.
The video’s credits indicated that Joshua and Julia wrote their respective dialogues themselves.
The video has so far drawn 15 million views on YouTube
Not bad at all for a song whose original video featuring Moira’s vocals and lyrics has earned over 37 million views since it was first uploaded in October 2020.
Letting go
The forgiving-each-other scene in the new video has nothing to do with the song, which was written by real-life couple Moira and Jason Hernandez, who are also its executive producers.
“Paubaya” is about learning to let go of a lover no matter how much it hurts. The jilted one wishes that the ex would not likewise end up being hurt in the future.
The song’s lyrics are heart-tugging. Everyone loves it.
Will the ex-lovers do a project soon?
It depends on Viva and ABSCBN. Julia is now with Viva and Joshua is still with ABS-CBN. Julia left ABS-CBN when she found out that Johnny Manahan and Mariole Alberto, her bosses at the Kapamilya network’s talent management arm Star Magic, accepted an offer to do shows on TV5.
I think both Viva and ABSCBN will hit the jackpot if they sign up Joshua and Julia for a one-time project.
