Yamaha rides bikes boom with expansion
Generating a huge number of products will result to creation of more jobs of roughly around 1500 employees for old factory and additional recruitment of 1,300 workforce for this newly-built factory
After 34 years of providing motorcycle for the country, Japanese manufacturer Yamaha unveiled its first ever manufacturing plant in the Philippines as part of its expansion efforts that is expected to generate 1,300 new jobs.
Situated at the Lima Technology Center in Malvar, Batangas, the expansion of Yamaha Motor Philippines Inc. (YMPH) was inaugurated on 22 February, witnessed by Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Director General Charito Plaza and YMPH president Hiroshi Koike.
Koike said with the pandemic forcing a shift in the mode of public transportation from commuting to personal mobility, there was an increase in the demand for automatic models.
“Generating a huge number of products will result to creation of more jobs of roughly around 1,500 employees for old factory and additional recruitment of 1,300 workforce for this newly-built factory. This is in line with our corporate social responsibility in contributing to the enhancement of the economy,” Koike noted.
YMPH aims to continuously cooperate with PEZA in expanding its business and fulfill its mission in the country resulting to the highest growth in motorcycle purchases among Association of Southeast Asian Nations members.
Expand to grow
The unveiling of the plant marks the start of operations of the PEZA-approved expansion through a supplemental agreement last 15 January 2020. The opening of a bigger factory was also Yamaha’s testament to its commitment to grow in the Philippines.
For her part, PEZA chief Plaza expressed her appreciation and gratitude to locators enhancing their operations such as that of the YMPH that contributed in keeping the economy afloat amid the Covid-19 pandemic, thus preserving the welfare of Filipinos by preserving their jobs.
