YouTube Premium switch

“While

I am a fan of the playlists on Spotify and take recommendations from other users, I find myself indulging more and more watching videos.

I was a Spotify Premium member for years when I got an email from Google offering a premium subscription for their music app. I had second thoughts because I was satisfied with my music streaming app that was uninterrupted by those annoying advertisements.

A second email though from Google led me to read the offering which caught my attention. YouTube Music’s premium membership also meant that the traditional YouTube app will be ad-free. That particular feature got me racing to my desktop and I canceled my Spotify membership and subscribed to Google.

While I am a fan of the playlists on Spotify and take recommendations from other users, I find myself indulging more and more watching videos especially by the select vloggers that I follow.

Being able to switch to YouTube Music was convenient since the audio would continue even if I collapse the app. YouTube Music would also allow me to switch to Music Videos on some songs as the vast library of Google is a treasure trove of multimedia content.

This column is not meant to discourage others from continuing their Spotify subscription as this is only my personal choice. Lately, Spotify has been promoting itself as the premier platform for Podcasts and I have friends who stream their shows there weekly.

The availability of local songs and Filipino artists should be considered when subscribing to a particular app. In my opinion, Google is unmatched and will remain the dominant platform for streaming.

I was so delighted with their service that I even availed of the family pack of Google so that my wife and sister can enjoy ad-free content when they log in to YouTube.

It has its downside too though. Jeffrey Wilson of PCMag.com says that it doesn’t offer Hi-Res audio and doesn’t offer non-music programming. That however is addressed by the YouTube app as it is easily accessible through your mobile phone or any device as well.

YouTube is downloaded on all my gadgets, including my Playstation 4, and I can enjoy music there too.

For those who are still on Spotify, it is still one of the best platforms commercially available. It also offers early album access for hardcore fans of artists.

I haven’t turned on my Spotify since I switched but will explore it one of these days and want to see good podcasts that are available there.

“Spotify’s library boasts more than 50 million songs, plus audiobooks, comedy, radio dramas, podcasts, poetry readings, and speeches,” Wilson said in his review.

But then again, YouTube and YouTube Music premium can match that and more since it has a video option as well.

“The availability of local songs and Filipino artists should be considered when subscribing to a particular app.
