Tugade all praises for PCG seach and rescue teams
Department of Transportation (DoTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade was all praises for the Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) relentless rescue and relief efforts during natural calamities, including recent tropical storm “Auring” that slammed Visayas and Mindanao.
On Tuesday, Tugade went to Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, along with Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III, DoTr chief of staff and Assistant Secretary for Procurement and Project Implementation Giovanni Lopez, PCG commandant George Ursabia and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines deputy director general for administration John Estabillo, to personally check on the condition of residents.
Upon his arrival, Tugade met with PCG frontliners who rescued stranded families.
“Thank you, PCG and to commandant Ursabia. The President is aware of your sacrifices. One Coast Guard, one family!” he said.
Tugade also graced a situation briefing presented to President Rodrigo Duterte.
On Sunday, PCG search and rescue operations teams risked their lives in saving residents of Tandag City, when floodwater rose.
PCG is still asking for donations.
“BRP Gabriela Silang will transport relief goods in Surigao tomorrow (Wednesday). We are now loading food packs, tents, hygiene kits, water, sleeping kits and alcohol. Please help us appeal for donations. There are still spaces for more donations,” PCG spokesperson Commodore Armand Balilo said.
