THUMBS UP FOR MARKUS

-

It was a pleasant early evening that was mostly attended by millennials, known to be the most active art patrons and art movers hereabouts

The opening of Markus Jentes’ art exhibition, “Impressions Expressions,” brought together his friends, patrons and Manila’s art lovers after months of not seeing one another. It just had to be the right occasion for this discriminating crowd to come out, with everyone following the strict requirements and yet, removing their masks if only for the picture taking moments. If this exhibition opening was about one’s love for the arts, it was also about

giving Markus a thumbs up for his impressive talent.

Markus’ solo exhibition, which runs until 21 March at the Espace Celine Room, the mezzanine gallery of the Altro Mondo Creative Space on Chino Roces Avenue in Makati, once again affirms his personal aesthetics of “continuously exploring and expressing

one’s experiences and emotions through art (in whatever form is deemed necessary), as well as continuous learning and experimenting.”

While using acrylic and some mixed media, he has successfully pushed himself outside of his comfort zone “by exploring expressionism at the same time keeping focused on the abstract theme.”

Explaining the preponderance of abstract shapes, lines and patterns in his works, which he created with acrylic and some mixed mediums, he claims they were inspired by his “experiences and feelings,” adding, “from painting what was in my

head, it became more of expressing what was in my heart.”

It was a pleasant early evening that was mostly attended by millennials, known to be the most active art patrons and art movers hereabouts. Ralph Peter Jentes, the father of the man of the hour, was beaming with pride, while the social set missed Markus’ mother, the former beauty queen Minnie Cagatao, herself a painter of the first rank, who couldn’t make it from the United States because of flight restrictions. But then, she sent her warm wishes to her charming son, and that put an even bigger smile on Markus’ handsome and beguiling face.
