YOUNG FILIPINA JEWELRY DESIGNER LANDS ON UK GLOSSIES

A jewelry brand that evokes modernism and panache, it showcases classic to contemporary pieces that sets itself apart from others

She has attained, realized and lived her dreams. And yet, there will definitely be more to come.

Denise Ching has forever wanted to be a fashion and jewelry designer since she was in grade three. “I was in awe of Bratz Dolls! Playing with them, I explored all the possibilities. I imagined scenarios where I clothed my toys. It made a huge impact on defining who I wanted to be,” she confessed. She eventually had the goal to dress up real individuals.

She could not wait to attend courses in specialized institutions, where she relished and loved every single moment at the Fashion Design and Merchandising Program of the De La Salle — College of Saint Benilde. She looked forward to their graduation fashion show, where she unleashed part of herself in her original ensembles.

There are two sides to a coin, they say. With her thirst for fashion quenched, she moved to her next target: jewelry. “I wanted more in life,” she claimed.

She immediately immersed herself in jewelry design, manufacturing and appraisal at the Gemological Laboratory of the Philippines. She did not stop there. She then pursued a course at the prestigious Gemological Institute of America (GIA), a nonprofit center focused on researches on diamonds and colored stones.

Ching shared that GIA had one of the toughest practical examinations. One hundred different stones were required to be identified. She had to obtain a perfect score, no less — a prerequisite for graduation. During her pre-test, she made four mistakes, where her confidence eroded and slipped away. However, due the support, encouragement and guidance of her supportive professors, she aced the exam!

With the practical yet creative hands-on approach from Benilde, plus the knowledge and experience from the GIA, she finally launched Devaluchi Joaillerie in 2018.

A jewelry brand that evokes modernism and panache, it showcases classic to contemporary pieces that sets itself apart from others. But more than anything else, Ching’s very own brand prides itself in its quality and most of all, honesty.

“We disclose everything. We make certain that our clients know the product. We inform them if we use natural diamonds, natural-colored stones, laboratory grown or even simulated ones,” she shared, as their product catalogue likewise meticulously lists down metals and alloys utilized.

Through this ethical business practice in a high-profile industry, she has built up the trust of her loyal patrons through the years.

For ideas, she takes pleasure and inspiration from her surroundings — that’s when most of her creative juices seem to flow. Fashion magazines likewise inspire her to come up with new twists. But behind all these is her heart — her guiding force. A realist, she thankfully accepted early on that she cannot please everyone.

With the tenets of extraordinary design, great craftsmanship and quality diamonds, Devaluchi Joaillerie has received three times the blessing, for it landed on the pages of iconic glossy magazines with sterling readership, such as the Conde Nast Traveller, the Tatler UK and the British Vogue.

Constantly on the move, with aims to reach higher summits, Ching is seriously considering opening a studio in London or in Switzerland. And knowing this go-getter achiever of a lady that she is, more dreams will be achieved. Just you wait!

Devaluchi Joaillerie is available at 2F Eastwing Estancia Capitol Commons. Visit its website at devaluchijoaillerie.com or Instagram at @devaluchijoaillerie.

In the past, people would say a smile is the best accessory one can wear, but since the pandemic began, it’s safe to assume that it’s a mask now.

Masks, which act as a shield from harmful particles, are still the next best alternative against the threat of the deadly virus as the country waits for the vaccines to arrive. Sure, it could completely cover a smile or a reaction, but no one ever said that styling it shouldn’t express the feelings of the wearer.

CopperMask not only makes this possible through its various colors, but the brand’s new and improved CopperMask 2.0 gives users the choice of monochromatic black-and-white or soft Gold Orange. Limited edition colors such as the Light Purple and Light Yellow enable users to suit their styles every day.
