Isko: Any vaccine will do, but…

- BY PAT C. SANTOS

His frustration apparent, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Thursday said that he will have himself vaccinated with the first Covid-19 jab that will become available in the country.

As long as the vaccines are declared safe by the national government regulatory agency, he’ll not hesitate to have the shot, Domagoso said.

He added that it will matter little where the vaccines will emanate from because the overriding factors will be their safety and efficacy.

“If my mouth froths, so yours will too,” the mayor said in jest in the vernacular, exasperated but not losing his sense of humor.

Domagoso then called on his constituents and the public in general not to lose faith in the system with the delays being encountered in the procurement of the vaccines.

Some vaccine manufacturers like Pfizer are reportedly asking the country for what would amount to quit claims or waivers on any responsibility over side effects.

The local official said he trusts scientists and doctors in guaranteeing the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines, although he conceded some may not be as effective as the others.

“Vaccines may be no guarantee but they’re better than being 100 percent exposed,” Domagoso said. He added they can be viewed as an added layer of protection against contracting the virus.

He said even China-made Sinovac, allegedly not recommended for frontliners, may be used by people who do not deal with Covid patients.
