Expanded SCTEx spurs progress
Expansion of SCTEx also will result to easing of travel time to Subic from Bataan or from different parts of Luzon, Clark and National Capital Region
The expansion of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac expressway (SCTEx) brings Central Luzon and Metro Manila closer to Subic Bay while also attracting more tourists and investors that could generate more Filipino jobs and income.
This was the statement of Mayor Jopet Inton of Hermosa, Bataan where a large area of Subic Bay Freeport is found.
Aside from Hermosa, the towns of Dinalupihan and Morong also form part of the area.
Mayor Inton and Congressman Joet S. Garcia were with Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman and Administrator Wilma Eisma, Metro Pacific Investment Corp. (MPIC) president Jose Ma. Lim, Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) president Rodrigo Franco, and NLEX Corp. president Luigi Bautista during last week’s inauguration of SCTEx expansion.
According to Inton, the expansion of SCTEx also will result to easing of travel time to Subic from Bataan or from different parts of Luzon, Clark and National Capital Region.

Ease of travel would promote the following: More tourists to Subic; more business to SBMA; maximize the utilization of the port in Subic for inbound and outbound goods; more business in SBMA that will mean more jobs to the people of Hermosa, Bataan province and to the neighboring provinces,” Inton pointed out.
The commercial pilot-turned mayor of Hermosa pointed out that more business activities in SBMA means more income for Subic and for Hermosa. The town is a stakeholder in SBMA and gets a regular share from the income of SBMA.
“Other investors in SBMA who need more spaces for their business or other prospective investors can relocate in Hermosa which also offers incentives like subic with the expansion of FAB in our town,” stressed Inton.
Last week, the 8.2-kilometer expansion project for the Subic Freeport Expressway that was designed to provide better, faster and safer access to the Subic Bay Freeport Zone was formally opened on Friday, Feb. 19, by the project developer and high-ranking government officials.
