‘Spider-Man’ star stops short of being a title spoiler
On 24 February, Tom Holland — who plays the titular character Peter Parker/ Spider-Man — and his costars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon revealed on social media that their new film is called Spider-Man: No Way Home
Actor Tom Holland, notorious for being a spoiler of the titles of his Spider-Man films before they’re publicly announced, this time played along with teasers to promote the third installment of the Marvel superhero franchise.
On 24 February, Holland — who plays the titular character Peter Parker/Spider-Man — and his costars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon revealed on social media that the third film is called Spider-Man: No Way Home.
They appear in a 30-second clip that opens with Holland stepping out of director Jon Watts’ office and complaining of being given the wrong title for the new film.
“He gave us a fake name again… I just don’t understand why he keeps doing this,” says Holland in the clip.
Both his co-stars disagree.
Batalon, who plays Peter Parker’s best friend Ned Leeds, retorts: “Really? I feel like it’s pretty obvious that you spoil things.” Zendaya, who is Peter’s romantic interest MJ, nods in agreement. Holland rebuts: “I don’t spoil, name me one thing that I’ve actually spoiled.”
Zendaya replies: “The last movie title.”
And then the three actors walk past a whiteboard written with Spiderman: No Way Home.
Prior to the announcement, they were teasing possible film titles on their respective Instagram accounts.
“So excited to announce the new Spider-Man title. Can’t wait for you lot to see what we have been up to. Love from Atlanta,” said Holland, whose photo with Zendaya and Batalon appeared with the title, Spider-Man: Phone Home.
Zendaya’s post had the title Spider-Man: Home Slice, while
Batalon’s is Spider-Man: Home Wrecker.
Spiderman: No Way Home premieres on 17 December. It is directed by Jon Watts, who also helmed 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, and 2019’s Spiderman: Far From Home.
