A woman is now facing a case of syndicated estafa in Navotas City after her victims complained her of “sangla-tira” modus after she had already embezzled P5 million.

The suspect was identified as Jonna Salazar, a resident of Barangay NBBS, Dagat-Dagatan.

Noli Cabas, one of her victims, said he allegedly gave Salazar P80,000 for a year to live in the mortgaged house she offered them. However, the suspect did not allow them to move to the house, until they found out that it had already been pawned to other people.

Cabas said he and his wife used their savings to pay Salazar, and they could not believe it only went to waste.

Another victim, Jimboy Quiapo, was allegedly asked P50,000 by the suspect, who promised them they would be able move in the house on 7 January this year.

However, after almost a month, they still have not moved in to the house.

Quiapo said he paid Salazar money he saved as a fish porter for almost 10 years.

On the other hand, Salazar said she was also the victim of the agents she got. She promised to pay all her complainants when she is finally able to sell the said house.

Despite this, Salazar will still be charged with syndicated estafa by the complaining victims, as well as her alleged accomplices who are barangay personnel.

However, the barangay captain vehemently denied she was involved in the said modus operandi.

In the meantime, officials advise prospective tenants to verify the properties they are buying at the Land Registry Office in their municipality in order not to fall prey to the same modus,

Likewise, it is advised to carefully check the background of the person they are transacting with and find out if they any record of fraud.
