Manila stages continuous mock exercises

To ensure that there are no mistakes in the handling, distribution and use of the fragile anti-Covid-19 vaccine, the Manila city government continues to hold simultaneous vaccination exercises.

At the city-run Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center (GABMMC), the simulation focused on vaccine transport in preparation for the arrival of the vaccine.

Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso said the vaccination simulation at the GABMMC was headed by its director, Dr. Ted Martin, and was participated in by its medical frontliners.

The mayor said the exercise is part of the preparations being continuously undertaken by the city government in readiness for mass inoculation.

“We have to be alert, orderly and efficient to ensure everyone’s safety against the threat of Covid-19. Thank you to GABMMC director Dr. Ted Martin and his hardworking staff for their dedication to their jobs and readiness to serve more Manileños,” Domagoso said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Arnold Pangan, Manila Health Department chief, led the simulation of the transport of vaccines from the storage facility at the Sta. Ana Hospital to the 18 target vaccination sites in the city.

From the Sta. Ana Hospital, the vaccines were placed inside transport coolers and brought to their various destinations.

The mayor said the simulation exercises are meant to perfect the city’s vaccination program and assures that all six city hospitals are ready to administer the vaccines to those who are interested to get inoculated.

He said he and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, along with the hospital directors, will lead in availing of the vaccine, which he said may take place next week at the earliest.

The mayor and Lacuna have been actively campaigning for the residents and the public in general to get vaccinated.

He explained that without the vaccine, people are at risk for infection 100 percent and even die from the coronavirus, while with the vaccine, the risk of developing a severe case is lessened due to the protection that the serum provides.

“We, your leaders, are getting impatient for the vaccine’s arrival. But while we are waiting, we’ll keep on practicing so that there is no error and the vaccine will not be wasted. It has a limit when it comes to the required temperature so that it doesn’t lose its efficiency,” Domagoso added.

We have to be alert, orderly and efficient to ensure everyone’s safety against the threat of Covid-19.
