Bike lanes projected to boost Tarlac tourism

- BY JONAS REYES

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac — The provincial government is eyeing a more robust tourism industry this year as more bike lanes are being developed along Tarlac’s highways.

Provincial Tourism chief Arsenio

Lugay II said the bike lanes will not only promote tourism, but also the safety and mobility of enthusiasts and commuters in the province.

Tarlac has been a “go-to” province when it comes to long rides due to its beautiful sceneries and historical tourist attractions.

Lugay noted that the painting of bike lanes along the highways will start next month.

He also cited the visit made two weeks ago by Senator Pia Cayetano where she joined an ocular ride of the province’s major thoroughfares and pointed out necessary improvements to be made for the safety of cyclists.

“With the current pandemic limiting the number of passengers per public utility vehicle, along with the high price of transportation fares, more people are turning to bicycles as a means of transport,” stated Lugay, adding that stakeholders in the province have expressed their support in providing cyclists their own lane.

“SM Tarlac established a lounge for bikers that has a repair station with tool kits, and bike parking manned by on-duty security guards. With this lounge, our bikers can park with ease and relax,” he said.
