President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday said Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio maintained her position that she does not want to run for the presidency at this time.

“Sara does not want to run (now) because she has three kids, they are still young. She wants to focus first with her family affair,” Duterte said in a press conference at the Villamor Airbase on Sunday.

The President made the reaction following the

Daily Tribune’s story on the possible “Sara-Go” tandem in the 2022 presidential elections.

The Daily Tribune also reported that a number of congressmen met in Malacañang last week to push for Sara’s presidential bid.

“She told me, that there are still other time for her to run in the (presidential) elections and she even used my favorite statement, she said, ’If God wants me, I will still become president, just like you, I will become president. It is not necessary at this time,’” Duterte said, quoting Sara as saying.

“If God does not want me to be president, I will not have that chance, then no more, just like that. The presidency is a gift from God. She doesn’t want now,” Duterte added.

According to the President, Sara is too young to become the next president of the country.

“She said assuming, just assuming she’ll become the president, after six years, she is still young. What she would do as ex-president, she could no longer work, she could not appear in court,” Duterte explained.

Duterte said that he advised Sara to continue her job as mayor of Davao City if she has no ambition to become president.

She told me, that there are still other time for her to run in the (presidential) elections.

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Atty. Salvador Panelo, who is pushing for the candidacy of Sara, said the selection of the presidential bet of the administration is narrowed down between her and Senator Christopher “Bong” Go.
