Vaccine’s arrival signals Phl’s recovery — Andanar

With the arrival of the first batch of coronaviru­s disease vaccines in the country, the Duterte administra­tion’s communicat­ions chief expressed optimism that the country is now back to its progressiv­e track and headed to recovery.

Presidenti­al Communicat­ions Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar made the pronouncem­ent after witnessing, along with other members of President Rodrigo Duterte’s Cabinet, the arrival and turnover ceremony over the weekend of the 600,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine by Sinovac Biotech Ltd., which was donated by the People’s Republic of China.

The vaccines’ arrival paved the way for the government to immediatel­y roll out its mass inoculatio­n program which commenced yesterday in in key hospitals in Metro Manila, including the University of the Philippine­s-Philippine General Hospital, Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium, Lung Center of the Philippine­s, Veterans Memorial Center, East Avenue Medical Center, and the Philippine National Police General Hospital.

Andanar urged the public to join the government in undertakin­g a new step towards recovery, especially in not being afraid of getting the anti-coronaviru­s jab and continuing to adhere to the health protocols.

“With the arrival of the vaccines, the end of the pandemic and its impact to us Filipinos are now in sight,” he said.

“It is even more important that we unite for the implementa­tion of health protocols, and hopefully for the vaccinatio­n. This will not work if only a few of us will get vaccinated,” he added.

Andanar likewise stressed that stressed that herd immunity can only be attained if the majority of Filipinos are willing to be inoculated.
