The biggest group of Filipino-Chinese businessmen in the country has announced plans to buy 500,000 doses of vaccines which will all be Coronavac produced by Sinovac Biotech.

According to the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) President Dr. Henry Lim Bon Liong, this is their group’s manifestation of support in the effort to speed up the vaccination program. Since the group believes in the efficacy of Sinovac, it said the majority of their members choose Sinovac, instead of other brands. “Following the examples of government leaders and top doctors who publicly received Sinovac vaccine injections, I and other top FFCCCII business and civic leaders are also planning to publicly be injected with this vaccine to promote better public awareness and confidence,” according to the FFCCCII leader.

He also extolled President Rodrigo Duterte for his successful diplomacy in securing the donation of 600,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccines from China which was sent to the Philippines by a special flight of the Xian Y-20 Chinese military transport plane, and for securing 25 million doses of vaccines from Sinovac Biotech this year.

Key civic projects

FFCCCII, established in the 1950s, is an umbrella federation of Filipino Chinese chambers composed of diverse trade and industry associations.

One of the donations that FFCCCII recently undertook was the financial support for establishing the Philippines’ biggest testing lab for Covid and other diseases at the Red Cross compound in Port Area, Manila through a joint project with Philippine Red Cross chair Richard Gordon.

In late 2020, the Filipino Chinese Community Calamity Fund has also donated tons of rice and other food relief aid to typhoon victims in provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Isabela, Cagayan, Bulacan and Marikina City.
