Healthcare tie-up targets lifestyle diseases
‘While we have all been focused on Covid, it’s important to remember that other diseases, like diabetes and hypertension, have been long-standing challenges for our country.’
Cases of diabetes in the Philippines are currently at 3.7 million. The number is expected to double in the next five years. Meanwhile, hypertension is the number one health problem in the country. Chronic kidney illnesses are also on the rise.
This alarming trajectory led Ayala Healthcare Holdings (AC Health) and global healthcare company Sanofi to collaborate to deliver accessible health services for Filipinos suffering from lifestyle diseases.
AC Health and Sanofi formalized the partnership last 23 February.
Present at the ceremony were French Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. Michèle Bocooz, Sanofi country lead Dr. Amal Makhloufi, General Medicines general manager Haissam Chrateih, AC Healthn CEO Paolo Borromeo and Ayala Corporation president Fernando Zobel de Ayala. Patient support programs for Filipinos with lifestyle diseases commenced the agreement signing.
“While we have all been focused on Covid, it’s important to remember that other diseases, like diabetes and hypertension, have been long-standing challenges for our country,” Borromeo said.
To fulfill its goal of decreasing the incidence of lifestyle diseases in the Philippines, AC Health and Sanofi came up with a three-pillar action plan.
First, the collaboration provides comprehensive training modules for doctors. These are available at their online platform, MDCorner.com. ph.
Second, they will enlighten patients and healthcare providers about innovative health solutions through a series of educational programs. Third, the two healthcare companies will make these innovative solutions available to Filipinos. According to Zobel de Ayala, establishing a strong relationship with a healthcare leader like Sanofi is pursuant to AC Health’s goal to foster a reliable healthcare sector in the Philippines.
