‘RENEJAY’ ready for world title

I used to work in a piggery. I also used to deliver to the market and pick fruits so I can load and play ML

There is no doubt that Renejay “RENEJAY” Barcarse is one of the most popular figures in local Esports circuit.

With more than 300,000 followers on Facebook, the 17-year-old RENEJAY had built a cult-like following using his polarizing on-screen character, sick plays in Mobile Legends (ML), viral Tiktok dance videos, raps and other funny footage.

But he wasn’t an overnight sensation. Before RENEJAY morphed into a virtual lightning rod he is today, he endured a humble beginning that is worth telling over and over again. He climbed his way to where he is right now through sheer hard work, passion and, of course, a lot of humility.

In fact, he used to have odd jobs before getting into the industry in which he sent a lot of messages to popular streamer and vlogger Setsuna “Akosi Dogie” Ignacio for a chance to turn professional.

“I used to work in a piggery. I also used to deliver to the market and pick fruits so I can load and play ML,” RENEJAY said, giving special credit to Akosi Dogie for taking a chance on him.

“Boss D got me because I topped the Philippines in stars then we met and played together. He recruited me and we were able to join The Nationals. Now, we are NXP (Nexplay Esports), which is our team in the MPL (Mobile Legends Bang Professional League).”

But great popularity comes great challenges.

Although RENEJAY has a lot of fans that rally behind him, he also has his share of bashers who do not like his confidence.

RENEJAY said although it’s all part of the job, what people see online is merely a character he developed as part of entertainment.

“It’s just an on-screen character because that is how I entertain people; that’s how I make them happy. The real me is just simple and humble,” Renejay said. With RENEJAY doing damage, Nexplay was impressive in the opening week of MPL Season 7.

Nexplay defeated Season 6 champion and Mobile Legends M2 world champion Bren Esports due to RENEJAY’s inspired performance.

And while RENEJAY, a revered gold laner, vowed to stay fierce the rest of the season, he said the only time that they would feel successful is when they finally nail the world championship. “I will be using more heroes. I have been practicing a lot of heroes so they should get ready because I will crush them all,” Renejay said. “I can say that we have already succeeded once we become world champions and M3. But perhaps even then, I would still continue gaming because I am happy with what I do and I get to inspire a lot of people.”
