Cop killer dies in shootout

A man suspected of killing a Manila cop last year was killed after exchanging fire with lawmen on Tuesday morning in Tondo, Manila.

P/Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco, Manila Police District (MPD) chief, identified the fatality as Rommel Tiatco, 26, a resident of Inocencio Street, Barangay 93 in Tondo.

MPD elements were serving the warrant issued by Judge Marivic Balisi of Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 20 when the suspect resisted and fired at lawmen.

The cops fired back, hitting Tiatco, who fell to the ground. He was immediatel­y brought to Gat. Andres Bonifacio Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.

Tiatco was the leader of the notorious “Wang-Wang” group, which was involved robbery hold-up, gun-for-hire, carnapping and motorcycle napping.

He was accused of killing P/SSG Dranreb Cipriano, an MPD member, last year in Tondo.
