Manila tutors get vaccine

- BY PAT C. SANTOS

The City of Manila started yesterday the rollout of the vaccine against the coronavirus disease to school principals and teachers.

To date, the city has inoculated 76,690 individuals since the vaccination campaign started a few weeks ago.

Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna led health workers in the vaccination at the Palacio de Manila along Roxas Boulevard in Ermita, Manila.

The teachers belong to A2 and A3 categories, mainly senior citizens and those aged 18 to 59 with comorbidities.

Meanwhile, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso thanked Health Secretary Francisco Duque III for the 10 brand-new and fully-equipped ambulances that will be distributed to the city’s six hospitals.

Domagoso personally received the ambulances, along with Lacuna and Manila Health Department chief Dr. Arnold Pangan.

He said the vehicles will be of great help, not only for Covid patients, but also for those with other life-threatening illnesses.

The mayor called on those who will be driving the ambulances to treat them with utmost care, saying they are essential in helping save lives.

On the other hand, the Manila mayor commended Re Fugoso, Manila Department of Social Welfare director, and the social workers under her for working even on weekends to complete the payout of the national government’s Social Amelioration Program.

We will not stop because people need money now.

Manila beneficiaries who have already received the cash aid has already reached over 100,000, as of Sunday night.

“A total of 100,102 families already received P4,000 each from the national government in a period of only one week. Congratulations to Director Re Fugoso and our social workers for going beyond the normal working hours and even days,” Domagoso said.

He also lauded members of the Manila Police District who have been guarding the payout sites to ensure peace and order.

“We will not stop because people need money now,” he stated.

He added the city government’s food security program (FSP) is also continuing to complement the cash aid.

Now on its third consecutive month, the FSP has so far covered 299,000 families out of the targeted 700,000 families in the entire city, all in just a five-day period of non-stop delivery.

The Manila mayor appealed to barangay chairpersons to dispatch the food boxes at once after these are delivered to their barangays.

“This is your chance to show your voters your care for them in these troubled times. You have no expense, just a little sweat, because you already know who have nothing to eat due to the extreme lockdown,” Domagoso added.
