Beware of fake vax — Panelo
Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Secretary Salvador Panelo on Wednesday warned the public against the possible proliferation of fake coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccines in the Philippines.
“If there is fake news, there is a fake vaccine too. Do not buy that,” he said.
Panelo in his daily online program “Counterpoint,” said the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) notified the public against fake Covid vaccines after numerous reports of fake vaccines were discovered in other countries especially in Mexico.
“Everybody wants to be vaccinated and you know scoundrels if they see an opportunity, they will take it,” he said.
He said that the FDA has not received any reported cases of fake Covid vaccines in the country.
The former Palace mouthpiece also reminded the public to only get the Covid vaccine shots from authorized local government units and private sectors.
Based on the FDA Advisory 2021-0664, the regulatory agency reiterated that Covid-19 vaccines are not allowed to be offered for sale in any pharmacy or drug outlet. Any vaccines being advertised for sale online or on websites are not legitimate.
“The Philippines, only Covid-19 vaccines with Emergency Use Authorization and those procured by and through the Government of the Philippines are allowed,” it added.
