Cop dead after being hit by cargo truck

A novice police officer was killed when a speeding cargo truck hit the back of his motorcycle in Caloocan City on Monday night.

Pat. Kevin Pinlac, 27, assigned to the District Mobile Force Battalion of Northern Police District and a resident of Sta. Cruz, Manila, died while being treated at the North Caloocan Doctors Hospital due to severe head and body injuries.

The driver of the Isuzu cargo truck, identified as Ricky Baracena, 44, of Poblacion, Norzagaray, Bulacan, voluntaril­y surrendere­d.

He is now facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.

According to the police, Baracena’s truck was following Pinlac’s motorcycle while traveling along Quirino Highway toward Fairview, Quezon City at around 8:45 p.m.

Arriving in Ascoville at Barangay 185, Malaria, the police allegedly suddenly stopped. The truck driver lost control of his steering wheel and plowed the victim’s motorcycle.

Due to the force of the impact, the victim was dragged a few meters while still riding his motorcycle. Although bloody and unconsciou­s, he was still alive. He was rushed to the hospital but died while being treated for his injuries.
