Angeles LGU earmarks fund for mental health
ANGELES CITY, PAMPANGA — The local government of Angeles City on Sunday announced that it has allotted P9.5-million for mental health services for residents here.
Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. disclosed that part of the help provided under the Gender and Development fund for the Integrated Mental Health Services for Persons with Mental and Psychological Challenges program were three individuals who were taken the St. Claire Psychiatric Homecare in Bacolor, Pampanga. Lazatin said that the three mentally-challenged individuals will have their medical treatment there as the city government continues to prioritize the welfare of his constituents. According to Chief Adviser and Tactician IC Calaguas, the three were transported by Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Rudy Simeon to the facility.
The chief stated that before they were transferred, they were subjected to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) testing by health workers from Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center and all three tested negative.
Lazatin noted that upon completion of their treatment, the three will be reintegrated into society, but would still be provided with basic needs such as medical assistance.
“This is in line with effort of the city government to clear the streets of homeless individuals, and to provide proper care for them,” said Lazatin.
A total of 43 mentally challenged individuals are also currently admitted at the Metro Psych Facility in Pasig and six are currently staying at St. Claire Psychiatric Homecare for their treatment.
