Sulu gears up for massive beach developmen­t

The province has many beautiful white sand beaches with clean and crystal clear water

JOLO, Sulu — The provincial government here announced that it is aggressive­ly developing potential beaches and scuba diving sites in this province aimed to revive and promote their dying tourism industry due to the coronaviru­s disease 2019 (Covid-19).

In a statement on Wednesday, Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan said that he asked the 19 municipal mayors and their local tourism officers to develop their respective tourism sites and destinatio­ns in this province.

“Our main target now is to develop our tourism sites and destinatio­n including sites for scuba diving,” said Tan in an exclusive interview with Daily Tribune.

“We wanted to be at far with other cities and provinces in the country who are now aggressive­ly developing their own tourism destinatio­ns and sites targeted to boost their tourism industry,” he added.

The governor also stressed that the province has many beautiful white sand beaches with clean and crystal clear water and a relaxing atmosphere.

“We wish to inform our tourist both local and foreign that we have the best beaches in the country,” Tan said.

He cited Takut beach and resort located in Maimbung town, the Panglima Tahil beach and resort in Panglima Tahil town, Birat Dalih beach and resort and the Pangat beach both in Parang, Sulu.

“We are also promoting the use of Jet sky and scuba diving in Sulu,” he added.

The Sulu governor said that peace and security is being guaranteed by our police and military authoritie­s in the province.

Sulu inhabitant­s are predominan­tly Muslim, constituti­ng about 90 percent of the provincial population and majority of them practice Sunni Islam of the Shafi’i tradition, as taught by Arab, Persian, Indian Muslim, Chinese Muslim and Malaccan missionari­es from the 14th century onwards.
