TikTok star Angela Ken is taking her microblogging fame one step further by entering showbiz.
She joins KD Estrada, Anji Salvacion and Sam Cruz as the newest addition to Star Magic’s Squad Plus (formerly Gold Squad).
The 18-year-old singer-songwriter gained over 800,000 online followers after posting “Ako Naman Muna,” a song in progress.
The track was adapted by ABS-CBN’s record label Star Music. Its music and lyrics videos have drawn a combined viewership of 4 million on YouTube.
Angela Is the only one in the Squad Plus with no showbiz background; KD and Sam are children of actors and Anji has done TV series and commercials.
But Angela is determined to prove herself in the biz. During the Squad Plus video media launch, she recalled having a conversation with her parents before making her decision to pursue a showbiz career.
Angela Ken revealed that her idol is Moira, but added that she’s bent to also make a name for herself as an OPM singer.
“My parents told me that if I enter showbiz, I have to be tough because not everyone will agree with an artist,” Angela said.
As for criticism, including online bashing, Angela said she will consider every feedback an “opportunity to grow.”
Having joined the big cast of the noontime show ASAP, Angela said she intends to write songs that listeners can relate to: “I want to talk about the value of childhood and more.”
She revealed that her idol is Moira, but added that she’s bent to also make a name for herself as an OPM singer.
In any case, being in showbiz doesn’t mean Angela will abandon school. She wants to major in Industrial Engineering at the University of the Philippines.
