Central Luzon police joins pantry bandwagon

There are currently more than 40 community pantries in the provinces of Pampanga and Nueva Ecija

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The Philippine National Police (PNP) Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) has launched its own community pantries in various police stations in Central Luzon.

This comes after the notion that the police are red-tagging organizers of community pantries — an initiative where stalls were put up with free food for those who are in need.

Dubbed as the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) BARANGAYanihan Project, the police’s community pantry also aims to help those who are greatly affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Officers from the PRO3 stated that the community pantries put up in barangays by concerned citizens have inspired them.

The police community pantries have rice, vegetables and groceries, and are open daily. These pantries were put up in front of different police stations.

There are currently more than 40 community pantries in the provinces of Pampanga and Nueva Ecija while other police stations in other provinces are setting up theirs.

“We keep on finding ways and means to protect and serve our people and this is one way of extending the Bayanihan spirit, our Barangayanihan to all those severely affected by the pandemic,” said PRO3 Regional Director PB Gen. Valeriano de Leon.

“We will not hesitate to go beyond our means to deliver basic services and relief goods to the poorest of the poor who are still affected by this pandemic,” he added.
