SMDC launches ‘green Edsa’ drive on Earth Day
The property developer initiates efforts to breathe new life to EDSA through its Green Edsa Movement.
Edsa continues to face congestion and pollution issues amid the community quarantine.
And as the pandemic has deepened the way people value sustainable living as more than just a passing lifestyle fad, big companies are also weighing in on their green initiative.
SM Development Corporation (SMDC), for instance, recently initiated efforts to breathe new life to Edsa, launching the program on 22 April in celebration of Earth Day 2021. Green Edsa Movement, the campaign title, was launched at Fame Residences in Mandaluyong City.
The condo building itself is an exemplar of SMDC’s green advocacy and is palpable in its tree-lined walkways, wide façade, lush façade, and energy-saving features that include a detention tank for reusable water harvesting, motion sensors for common-area lighting and exterior curtain walls to allow natural light. In this 23-kilometer stretch, nature becomes the focus through its lush landscape, natural lighting and ventilation.
The Green Edsa project extends beyond the confines of Fame Residences and in its peripheries. Part of the plan is to create an Edsa lined with a variety of greens to generate fresh air, to build spacious sidewalks where people can stroll safely and freely, and mount pocket gardens offering solace in the midst of the city’s hustle and bustle.
Building spaces filled with lush greenery and promoting sustainable living are the same guiding principles that has defined SMDC’s developments – starting from its Edsa properties, Sea and Shell Residences in the MOA Complex, where Edsa begins, to the central Edsa properties, Fame Residences, Light, and Light 2 Residences, all the way to properties in North Edsa and in the country’s other major CBDs.
