Behave properly, MPD men told
Attention must also be given to the trauma risk management of our organization
Manila Police District (MPD) Director P/BGen Leo Francisco reminded his men to behave properly, stay away from petty quarrels with neighbors and avoid excessive drinking.
In an interview by the Daily Tribune, Francisco said he had called on all his station commanders to personally watch their men, know them well and act as their big brothers.
Francisco made the call after a police officer shot an old lady point blank in her face that instantly killed her following an old misunderstanding.
He said that as head of Manila’s Finest, it is his prime responsibility to look after his men and know their present situation. He bared that he regularly talks to all his commanders amdmake unannounced inspection to personally know all that is going on within their stations.
Francisco admitted that the recent development involving a police officer who shot to death an old lady due to petty misunderstanding is very disgusting and will taint the people’s trust on their policemen.
“What I am telling my men is to work well, live peacefully with their family at the center and most of all have a fear in God and that’s the best weapon one can have during troubled times,” he said.
Meanwhile, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar said he is seriously considering suggestions on subjecting all police personnel to regular neuro-psychiatric tests.
“The PNP will study this recommendation of subjecting our personnel to regular psychiatric assessments or tests. Personally, I acknowledge that there is really a need to prioritize this given the nature of our duty,” PGen Eleazar said.
The PNP chief admitted that the healthcare services of the organization still has limitations.
“Attention must also be given to the trauma risk management of our organization. However, I would also have to admit the limitations, at present, in our healthcare capacities and services. We will study carefully how to conduct regular neuro-psychiatric tests in all our police forces,” he said.
