Bilibid search yields contrabands
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has warned inmates in all its prison facilities nationwide that they will be sanctioned heavily if they will be caught with contrabands.
The warning, issued in consonance with the order of Director General Gerald Q. Bantag, came in the aftermath of a search operation at Building 9 of the maximum security compound at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City which yielded prohibited materials.
During the operation, BuCor personnel seized two mobile phones, three pocket WiFi, 161 pieces of arrows, 21 slings, 38 improvised pointed weapons, 92 improvised bladed weapons, 11 round steel bars, a disposable lighter, a liter of fermented yeast, two decks of cards, three USB flash drives, an improvised charger, three improvised headset, two hammers, a pair of scissors, two improvised hacksaws and eight rabbits.
The seized items during the search operation are all prohibited items inside jails.
The BuCor said confiscated contrabands will be entrusted to the Intelligence and Investigation Division and will be turned over to NBP-Investigation Section for proper safekeeping and evidentiary purposes.
“Persons Deprived of Liberty who violated the Prison Rules and Regulations will face administrative charges which will be filed before the Board of Discipline,” it said.
“With the guidance of Director General Gerald Q. Bantag, BuCor strongly prohibits all forms of misconduct inside prison facilities as part of the making of a better bureau,” it added.
Other prison facilities under the control of BuCor aside from the NBP, are the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City; Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Occidental Mindoro; San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City; Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog, Leyte; and Davao Prison and Penal Farm in Panabo, Davao del Norte.
