Mainit town intensifies jabs info drive

-

Mainit, Surigao del Norte Mayor Crisanta Mondano on Thursday said the municipal government is intensifying its information drive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines amid the heightened hesitancy of being vaccinated.

The Mainit mayor disclosed in a radio interview that there are still some senior citizens in the area who are afraid to take the Covid-19 jabs because they are afraid that it may lead to their deaths.

“Not everyone is excited because there are lots of negative messages in the social media,” Mondano said. “But for those who were already vaccinated, we have a total of 1,000 individuals from the A1, A2 and A3 categories.”

“In the A1 category, at least 78 percent were inoculated, while senior citizens on the A2 category are still not vaccinated and the A3 category’s vaccination is still ongoing,” she added.

The municipal chief executive noted that they have also launched an intensive information campaign regarding the Covid-19 vaccine to counter the proliferation of false information on social media.

“We are conducting an information campaign particularly those among the senior citizens, because the percentage of those vaccinated among the senior citizens is not high,” Mondano said.

“In fact, we are doing house-to-house campaigns and we reiterate that some information on social media regarding deaths after being vaccinated are fake news,” she added.

Mondano disclosed that they even offered free sacks of rice to persuade the senior citizens that there is nothing to be afraid of when it comes to the Covid-19 vaccine.
