VALORANT SHIFTS TO MOBILE
Mobile gamers get another reason to rejoice after Riot Games confirmed that its popular 5v5 tactical first-person shooter Valorant is getting a port to mobile in a yet to be announced release date.
Valorant executive producer Anna Donlon said they decided to shift from PC (personal computer) to mobile as their way of repaying the support given by their growing community of gamers.
Aside from mobile, Riot Games is also exploring the idea of offering Valorant in consoles as well.
“One of our top goals this first year is to earn the trust and respect of the global FPS community, and to prove to them that Valorant will always uphold the fundamentals of a truly worthwhile competitive tac-shooter,” Donlon said, adding that their shift to mobile could be completed within the next two years.
“To see our growing player community recognize and appreciate what we’re trying to do with Valorant is beyond what we could’ve expected and we’re thrilled to soon offer the same competitive Valorant
experience to even more global players.”
Donlon added that the mobile game will be unique and will not be available for cross-play.
“We’re not trying to convert Valorant PC players into Valorant Mobile players or vice versa,” she said.
“We’re absolutely just as committed to keeping the PC experience at the quality level it is or higher, and we’re not going to compromise in order to address the
mobile market.”
Another Riot Games title, League of Legends, was also ported to mobile last year with League of Legends: Wild Rift.
For years, developers have explored crossing over to mobile to reach a wider fanbase.
It was a proven recipe for success for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite while Apex Legends Mobile is currently in closed beta.
