In celebration of its 450th founding anniversary, the City of Manila is bringing back Manila Restaurant Week (MRW), first staged in 2020 to encourage the public to dine out.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso said, based on plans presented by Permits bureau chief Levi Facundo, MRW returns for “Frozen Weekends” from 20 June to 4 July 2021.

Mayor Domagoso said restaurants may freely join the activity. All they need to do is submit a letter of intent with their and contact information via email at permits@manila.gov.ph.

The mayor called on the public’s support for restaurants within the City of Manila, saying this would help rev up the local economy.

Facundo said frozen products will be offered on three weekends, on 20 and 25 to 27 June and from 2 to 4 July, although participating restaurants may come up with their own theme during the two-week event.

Facundo said aside from discounts the restaurants will be offering from 20 June to 4 July, there are great offers for frozen products, such as yogurt, ice cream and even frozen foods in supermarkets on the covered weekends.

He said there will be additional discount offerings on the Araw ng Maynila celebration on 24 June, while discounts are expected on weekends.

He added restaurants may also opt to give free frozen desserts as part of MRW on weekends.

The first MRW was launched in Manila in September last year, with over 80 participating restaurants.

It was an offshoot of the “Manila Support Local” campaign meant to encourage the public to patronize Manila-based establishments when they eat, shop or buy any of their needs.

While many restaurants in Manila have closed, the local government has thrown all its effort to support the affected businesses, particularly restaurants, and MRW is a manifestation of efforts to enliven this sector.
