MisOc peace initiative­s intensifie­d

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Mindanao’s top military commanders recently visited Tangub City in Misamis Occidental (MisOc) and discussed with the provincial government plans for intensifyi­ng proactive measures to sustain peace and socio-economic developmen­t in the province.

Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom) chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr. and Joint Task Force (JTF)-Mindanao commander Lt. Gen. Jose Faustino Jr. met with Misamis Occidental Governor Philip Tan on Saturday and deliberate­d on the current peace and order situation in the province.

Tan disclosed to Vinluan and Faustino that the current peace and order situation in the province has improved compared in the previous years and expressed his gratitude to state forces for keeping them safe and secured.

The MisOc governor also lauded the military for their efforts in helping the province in its battle with the coronaviru­s disease 2019 (Covid-19) by strictly enforcing the minimum health protocol as ordered by Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

The WesMinCom commander, meantime, thanked Tan for his unwavering support to the continuing efforts of the military to end terrorism and insurgency in the province.

Vinluan also revealed to the Misamis Occidental provincial government that Faustino will now head the first-ever JTF in Mindanao aimed to unify the efforts of the Armed Forces (AFP)-Eastern Mindanao Command and AFP-WesMinCom in addressing the peace and security concerns in the region.
