The Cebu provincial government on Sunday announced that it is willing to assist returning overseas Filipinos and overseas Filipino workers (OFW) affected by the flight diversion to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said that she had a meeting with government and private stakeholders recently and discussed the possibility of lending a hand to returning Filipinos and OFW who will surely shell out extra funds for their ticket coming from Manila to Cebu.

Garcia noted that she laid out her plans to Dr. Christina Giango of the Cebu Provincial Health Office and Cebu City acting Mayor Michael Rama and added that the Bureau of Quarantine will also assist in identifying the affected Filipinos returning to the country.

The Cebu City Government earlier expressed to help returning Pinoys by funding their airplane tickets.

The Cebu governor also stressed that they need to come up with a contingency plan in case the diversion of Cebu-bound international flights will be extended anew, adding that the Capitol is making “arrangements” with airlines to come up with a plan for the airfares.

Meantime, Garcia reiterated that Cebu’s swab-upon-arrival policy for returning Filipinos and OFW will be sustained.

“We will take care of the swab-upon-arrival and other things that may be needed by DoH-7 (Department of Health),” Garcia said.

The private sector has also committed to help DoH-7 in its swabbing needs in Cebu.
